Much attention in the press and elsewhere has been focussed on the roles of directors in corporate governance. Many advocate more training for directors, arming directors with the tools that they need to fully discharge their duties. However, there is a paucity of well designed and delivered courses at which time-poor directors can attend.

HIM Governance is proud to be a marketing agent for one of the oldest and highly regarded director training institutions, the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). Dedicated to making a positive impact on the economy and society by promoting professional directorship and good governance, the AICD is Australia's premier membership institute for directors.

Courses offered this year include the globally-recognised “Mastering the Boardroom”, a specially designed practical programme that allows participants to examine ways of improving board performance, explore good practices for board and management relationships, apply knowledge to develop insights into effective directorship, identify issues and solutions to possible board problem areas, and identify personal directorship strengths and areas for development in a boardroom setting.

Other courses include: “The Chairman”, “The Role of the Director and the Board”, “Capital Raising”, “Strategic Financial Skills”, “Not for Profits: Issues for Directors”, and “Assessing Company Performance for Directors”. The AICD offers a wide range of courses, and you are encouraged to download and read the full brochure to fully appreciate the wide scope available.

There is also a chance for outstanding candidates to apply for a scholarship from the AICD to attend the International Company Directors Course (ICDC). Even without a scholarship, membership of the AICD secures discounts for courses, conferences, and other events.
